  • 25 Years Ago Today... Live Aid

Hard to believe that 25 years ago today, July 13, 1985, was the epic Live Aid concert that took place in London and Philadelphia to raise money and awareness to help fight hunger in Africa. The whole thing was organized by Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats.

    Some of the performers included:

    Eric Clapton
    David Bowie
    Bryan Ferry
    The Beach Boys
    Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath
    Judas Priest
    Led Zeppelin
    Elton John
    Paul McCartney
    Duran Duran
    The Cars
    REO SPeedwagon
    Tom Petty
    BB King
    Mick Jagger
    Tina Turner
    The Who
    Bryan Adams
    Rick Springfield
    Run DMC
    Elvis Costello
    Simple Minds

...and many, MANY more. Phil Collins even did the impossible and played one set in London, then hopped on the Concorde and flew to Philly and played a 2nd set there!

    And now... some clips.

Queen (one of the most EPIC concert moments EVER)

Whats Live Aid??....I kid I kid...I remember it well only because we were the only family to have "cable" (back in the day not many people could afford it) and all my older siblings firends were at our house..of course I was small I did not understand the significant of this event at that time..

Re: 25 Years Ago Today... Live Aid

I was only 10 (almost 11) when this aired but I understood how big a deal this was. I was (and still am) a HUGE fan of Duran Duran (had been for 3 or 4 years prior to then... little did I know that performance was the beginning of the end for them... at least for awhile... I watch now and I can SMELL the tension between them all.. wow), so I mainly watched to see them & The Power Station, but I also loved so many of the other performers and knew who they all were. We didn't have tweeny-bopper acts like Miley or Justin Bieber back then (praise be!).

Oh and I was shocked today when I was talking with a coworker who had never even heard of Live Aid. I actually said, "What planet are you from?!"
