  • Broadway Strike!

Broadway has gone dark. Only eight productions are still running due to a strike. Stagehands are unhappy. I wonder how long this will last...

It's heartbreaking. Without stagehands, shows can't do anything. But obviously they need someone to take notice.

            It's only going downhill.
This is from today's New York Post:

...the strike is likely to drag on through the Thanksgiving Day holiday - generally Broadway's most profitable weekend - and possibly into December.
When the actors and musicians start feeling the pinch, their union leaders will put intense pressure on the stagehands to make a deal. That's what happened during the musicians strike four years ago. The stagehands walked out in sympathy. But after three days, they nudged the musicians back to the table.
And if the strike slides into December, a number of shows will have no choice but to put up the closing notice. Once that happens, the stagehands believe that the producers' united front will crack. Already the producers of "The Grinch" are screaming. They lost $500,000 over the weekend. And since they're checking out of the St. James in January anyway, there's no point in reopening if the strike lasts past Thanksgiving. "The Drowsy Chaperone," which has announced a January closing, is also vulnerable, as is Tom Stoppard's "Rock 'n' Roll," which is saddled with paying living expenses for actors imported from Britain.

If I can't see Lance Bass, i'm going to cry and cry
              Good morning, son
              In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
              It was pain
              Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

                Re: Broadway Strike!

I just saw The Drowsy Chaperone a week ago.

I was in Times Square on Saturday and I felt badly for the people that had come from far away to see shows that ended up being cancelled.

I read in Sunday's New York Times that the actor that plays the Grinch came outside on Saturday and sang a song to some of the disappointed fans and signed autographs.
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching.
