  • Has anyone seen Spamalot?

I have a choice of seats - middle orchestra either right or left side

    middle orchestra last few rows

Or - I can sit us separately 2nd or 3rd row, center

I want to take my 16 yr old daughter - I'm not sure if I need to sit with her - basically to maybe explain some of the jokes - or sitting separately would be okay

Also 2nd or 3rd row - is that too close for this show??? or being back a bit would be better?

Otherwise it would be around row K, left or right

or in the double letters center

    Thanks for any help

    Yes

'Monty Python's Spamalot' Gala Premiere in Las Vegas - 4/2/07
    http://www.micechat.com/forums/showt...light=spamalot

Might want to sit back mid-center to take in all the majesty.
Suggest renting the film as well in advance so as not to disturb other theatregoers with extensive explanations.

    Enjoyalot!

I would say middle orchestra. 2nd or 3rd row is always a little too close to a Broadway show for me. I still have to take my brother, since I told him I would for his birthday, and that was in July! Finally have time to do it...and the strike hits. Now that it's over, hopefully we can find another time.

        Re: Has anyone seen Spamalot?

I saw it a couple of years ago from the very back row of the theatre. It was a little disappointing to see the actors from so far away, but I think the sets are MUCH better from further back. 2nd or 3rd row would almost definately be too close.

Has she never seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail?

I've never seen the movie, but I still think the play works without having to have seen the movie first.

I saw it Sunday last week... twas faboo.

                I wanna see it again.

Since it was my first time, I want to know...

                Spoiler
Do they change up the seats for the end? Or is it always D101? If they keep it the same... I need to rush for that seat next time!

From when some of my students asked, the seating in the orchestra is general admission, no assigned seats in that area, and the seat changes.

It's always the same. Good luck trying to get that seat though...

I think your daughter is old enough to understand the jokes. The jokes come so fast too that stopping to explain one to your daughter could mean you both miss the next one.

Oh, yeah... and the jokes range from very current to very fanboy, so in order to explain all of the jokes, you're going to need to know the entire Monty Python cannon...

So, get cracking on all those years of TV, records, and movies!

Don't explain the jokes. If she doesn't like it, make her watch Holy Grail with the subtitles for people that don't like the movie.

I concur! One off the greatest movies of all-time!

My boss saw Spamalot on Broadway this past summer and said it was freakin' hilarious. He brought back a plush killer bunny as a souvenir. It's coming here to Clearwater next year. I'm trying to talk the BF into going. I want to see this so bad!

'Spamalot' changes lyric reference from Spears to Spice

                              By Todd Plitt, USA TODAY
"Because we don't laugh at sad people. Mike Nichols (the show's director)
requested it and he's right. We changed the lyrics in London, on tour,
on Broadway and in Las Vegas," Eric Idle said. "We think that it's now too sad.
Britney Spears is being tortured to death and we don't want to be on that side."

NEW YORK (AP) — Britney Spears is out, Posh Spice is in — as a lyric for the Lady in the Lake in the Broadway musical Monty Python's Spamalot.

Asked why the lyric was changed in the song Diva's Lament, Spamalot author Eric Idle said Tuesday in an e-mail:

"Because we don't laugh at sad people. Mike Nichols (the show's director) requested it and he's right. We changed the lyrics in London, on tour, on Broadway and in Las Vegas. We think that it's now too sad. Britney Spears is being tortured to death and we don't want to be on that side."

The changes went into the various companies last week.

What the Lady in the Lady (currently played on Broadway by Hannah Waddingham) once sang:

"I am sick of my career
                              Always stuck in second gear
Up to here with frustration and with fears
                              I've no Grammy no rewards
                              I've no Tony Awards
I'm constantly replaced by Britney Spears
                              Britney Spears!"
                              It's been replaced by:
"My love life is a mess
                              I've got constant PMS
My career is about as hot as ice
                              They hate me there backstage
They say I'm too old for my age
They're trying to replace me with Posh Spice
                              With Posh Spice!!"
