    The Beatles' 'LOVE'
    Wins Two Grammys
at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Beatles' LOVE won two Grammys(R) at the 50th Annual Grammy(R) Awards in the categories of Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or other Visual Medium and Best Surround Sound Album. Ringo Starr joined LOVE's producers, Sir George Martin, The Beatles' legendary producer, and his son, music producer Giles Martin, to accept the award for Best Compilation Soundtrack during the live February 10 Grammy telecast from Los Angeles.

"The idea for LOVE started with George Harrison talking to Cirque du Soleil," said George Martin. "We all pay tribute to George, Ringo, Paul and John as the people who are behind this award."
LOVE's two Grammy Award wins raise The Beatles' Grammy count to nine. The Beatles' seven prior wins include Best New Artist of 1964 and Album of The Year and Best Contemporary Album for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967, which also honored the album's producer, George Martin. Including LOVE's awards, Martin has been awarded six Grammys for producing and arranging, including The Who's Tommy for Best Musical Show Album in 1993 (producer) and the award for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) for Paul McCartney & Wings' Live And Let Die in 1973.

Cast members from The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at The Mirage in Las Vegas paid tribute to the Beatles at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards with a special performance. 25 dancers and acrobats performed live to "A Day in the Life" and in the Grammy finale with "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)," both from the LOVE album.

Sunday the soundtrack to "Love" won two Grammy awards. During the telecast, some of the cast of the Cirque show at the Mirage performed a modified version of their routine to the Beatles' "A Day in the Life."

In the context of the spectacular sound and setting of the theater of "Love," that routine is one of the most emotionally moving in the entire show. It features one of the best aerialists I have ever seen. The television Grammy experience, though perfectly adequate television, was not a good substitute for seeing "Love" at the Mirage.

The breaking of the car behind the aerialists into acrobats with the automobile's component parts has surprising visual impact at the center of a stage but was caught mostly in the background by Grammy cameras. And the "Love" cast looked cramped on the Grammy stage. Still, the value of a Grammy appearance (not to mention winning the awards) was worth lots of attention and publicity for the show. But not so much press that "Love" wanted to miss any performances of their usually sold-out show. The amazing thing is that "Love" is so hot a ticket right now that they were able to structure things so that not a single performance was lost in order for some cast members to be at the Grammy awards for the act last night.

"Love's" publicist informed me: "Zero shows canceled. We just moved dark nights around." That is what things are like when you are the hottest ticket in Vegas.
