  • Favorite collection or series?

I LOVE reading book collections...in fact, that's about all I read. In four years I have made it almost completely through 3 different series. With only a few books left, I am on the hunt for something new to read. In all the time I have been reading the series, I have never run across anyone who also reads series. A few people have read a few of the books mentioned below, but, have not followed the series through. I'm wondering if I'm alone out there in searching out each and every book of a series.

Do any of you read series or collections, which ones are you reading?

    These are mine...

*Nero Wolfe-by Rex Stout. A tv show with Timothy Hutton was on A&E a few years ago and turned me onto the books. Great dectective series without the blood and gore. A rather rotund stubborn man, and his attractive, charming assistant take on Manhattan. (only met 2 people who've read them) been reading them for 5 years.

*James Bond-by Ian Fleming. I LOVE the movies (with Sean Connery), so, I started reading the books. Which are infinately better. What's not to love, a handsome spy, some intrigue, great villains. In one, Nero Wolfe is mentioned. (only know 2 people that have read them). been reading them for 2 years.

*The Cat Who-Lillian Jackson Braun. I started reading these cause the library had SO many, and I couldn't find any of the above ANYWHERE. After the first, I was hooked. Great little mystery series involving a newspaper writer turned millionaire; who solves the towns mysteries with the help of his overly intelligent Siamese cat named Koko. (never met anyone who reads them) been reading them for 2 years)

    So what about you?

I'm in the middle of Sue Grafton's Alphabet Series

I used to read Jonathan Kellerman's Dr. Alex Delaware series but I think I'm a few books behind.

    And Diane Mott Davidson's series.

I LOVE series. It's the best way for a book to NOT end )

Oh and have read a couple of the Cat Who... books - the people I used to babysit for had them
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

If you liked Nero Wolfe you might enjoy the website http://www.nerowolfe.org 800+ pages about the Rex Stout books) or consider joining The Wolfe Pack -- A Literary Society for Nero Wolfe.

I am a series reader. Other good series are Dorothy L. Sayers, Agatha Christie, Tony Hillerman, Faye Kellerman, Jane K. Cleland.

Hope you will stop by the web site!

I don't read mysteries, but have read something similar in Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden files. He is a real wizard in modern day Chicago where weird things occur. He is in the phone book under "wizard" and will help you solve that unusual crime. They are very well written and a little off the beaten track.

yeah, I've thought about joining the Wolfe Pack...I would LOVE to. But, since they are stationed in New York...there's NO chance I will be able to attend any of their functions. The trip they made to the filming of the show, sounded like such a good time!!! I would have LOVED to have been there. I will check out that web site. Thanks!!!!!

you know, I have picked those up more than once while walking around the bookstore. They look pretty good, but, are they bloody and gorey like some are?

          thanks for ya'll's responses!!!

Nope, not at ALL. They're actually really tame. They also take place in the 80s so it's a fun throwback.

I loved Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, but the last couple books were really bad.

Also loved Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I've also read every book of his that's related even in the vaguest way to the Dark Tower.

Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

John Corey's series by Nelson Demille

The Hitchhiker trilogy (all 5 of them) by Douglas Adams. The last 2 are ok, but the first 3 are just wonderful!

I've tried reading Anne Rice..but, she is too specific on details. She has to explain everything that's in the room, and exactly what it looks like. Gets aggravating.

Yeah that's was my biggest pet peeve about her works. You don't have to get into every single itty bitty little teeny tiny detail. Sheesh. It really made me want to put the books down sometimes. But those last couple books, especially Black Wood Farm, made me think I was reading a VC Andrews novel with all the crazy family members sleeping with each other. Blegh!

I tried reading her Mayfair Witches books and only got halfway through the 2nd one before I couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to reach in and smack half the characters upside the head and say "STOP. IT."

My favorite series has to be the The Vorkosigan Saga books by Lois McMaster Bujold. With “Memory” being just beating out the other for favorite.

My favorite series are ones I read as a child:

                              Betsy/Tacy by Maud Hart Lovelace
                              Little House books
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle by Betty MacDonald
All of a Kind Family (can't think of the author right now)
                              Ramona by Beverly Cleary

I also like the Mommy Track mysteries by Ayelet Waldman and of course the Harry Potter books.
