    Jones grabs 'Flint' for Material

    Novel is 'Treasure Island' prequel

LONDON — John Drake’s debut novel “Flint & Silver,” billed as an adult prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic pirate novel “Treasure Island,” has been optioned for the big screen by Material Entertainment.

Material, headed by Robert Jones, is the London-based production joint venture between Entertainment Film Distributors and New Line Intl. Its first pic was the U.K. box office hit “Run, Fat Boy, Run.”

“Flint & Silver,” set for publication by Harper Collins later this year, recounts the rivalry between Captain Flint and Long John Silver.

Jones commented, “John Drake has created complex, colorful and eminently castable heroes that at once weave seamlessly into Stevenson’s classic and leap off the page in a thoroughly contemporary manner.”
