  • Concert hints for DTD House of Blues?

I ran a search but didn't find the answer. Maybe you fine folks can help.

I'm taking my 17 yr old daughter to see the B-52s at the Anaheim HOB this May. I've never been inside and am only an infrequent concert goer. I hear there is very limited seating in the music hall. What is the concert experience like here?

Is it worthwhile eating at the restaurant to get early entry?

What are the best places inside the hall?

Is there anywhere to sit with a general admission ticket?

    Thanks!

There are sometimes a few seats upstairs, but not many. For the most part it's standing wherever you can. And, figure if you go to the bathroom you'll generally lose the place you were standing unless someone is holding it for you. The food there is OK at best but usually worth it for early entry as the place really lines up. The sound is good but the experience itself depends on the type of crowd there. Last time I was there (Social D) I had never had so many people try and shove in front of me to stand in the six inches between me and the person in front of me. But, the music was good.

Been there twice for the same band (Bowling for Soup) and like Mcow1 said, it's pretty much entirely standing room. Both times, my group ended up on the right hand side of the room (if you're looking at the stage...) and while it was crowded, had a very good time.

Don't know about the priority entry thing...we got into the shows after the openers had already done their stuff.

Yes. Eat there, get early entry, and you might be able to get a couple of stools on the rail upstairs. Guard them well

G.A. tickets are just that at most HOB locations. This will be a dance-apalooza show so hit the floor downstairs. Have a fab time!

Unfortunately unlike Hollywood, Chicago and New Orleans for example they haven't brought the "Rock The House" VIP Premimum Access program to DTD Anaheim yet. That gets you VIP seating, club access and parking.

There are actually a lot of seats upstairs. However, the band usually reserves a few or all of the upstairs.

Eating at the restaurant is worth it for a popular band (agreed the food is not very good) but if you can get there early you can usually get a pretty good SRO place.

And yes, if you have to potty do it quickly... the later it gets the less the people will let you back in your spot. And when the bands goes on stage- expect a surge of people!!!

Thanks very much for all of the suggestions. We're both excited to catch the B's.

I have been to HOB in Anaheim a couple of times. Great experience because you are up close and personal.

I don't care for HOB restaurant food, but just order a couple of appetizers and some drinks and you'll get priority entry.

Granted you have to wait almost 1 hour plus to see the main band because of the warm up bands but it's worth being in the mosh pit. If people push you, slyly push them back.

Nothing like having spit and sweat fly across the room.

                Get there early.

Re: Concert hints for DTD House of Blues?

Loge seats (upstairs) usually cost more than the floor and you need to have a special sticker that says "Loge" on it along with your Loge ticket in order to get up there.

There's limited seating at the bars in the back and on the sides, but you probably won't see much of the stage that way. Your typical HOB hold around 2000-3000 people. If you don't want to get squished, stay away from the front and keep closer to the back on the floor.

I've been to many concerts at the Orlando HOB.

Oh and when they say "Don't run!" when you go in... DON'T RUN! I once witnessed an incident where a girl I knew shoved the HOB employee who told her not to run. She ended up getting kicked out and after refusing to leave, the cops were brought in and she was arrested for trespassing... plus resisting arrest as she still refused to leave.... and assult on an officer as she kicked the cop in the family jewels after he hauler her outside. She spent 2 nights in jail, missed the concerts and is permanently banned from the Orlando HOB.

Now that sounds like a Social D show and a plague waiting to happen!

You obviously haven't been to a Duran Duran show where Simon LeBon spits water into the crowd. His cooties have gotten so many fans sick as a result we've nicknamed him "Typhoid Simon".

I've seen (and met) them a couple of times. He didn't spit or sweat on me though. The band gets tested for their tour insurance, the pit doesn't offer that same up close filter.

You're one of the lucky ones. Thankfully I've never been spit on, but Si kissed me on the cheek once back in 2001. Blegh! Now if that had been John or Roger...
