  • Have to send my 360 in! YAY!

Woke up this morning, booted up my 360 and got the E74 message. Rather than monkeying with it, I'm just sending it to Microsoft.

    Dreading the bill though.

    How old is your system?

I got the E74 right after upgrading to NXE - this was before they included this in the extended warranty, but they covered me because it would alternate with RROD - so they warrantied mine. Depending on your machine's age, if warrantied, it will be a free repair.

I was having the E74 over a year ago, oddly enough my 360 only did it when I tried to play Bully: Scholarship Edition.

          It was manufactured 7/7/06

The thing is is that I have been figuring that it would fail for some time now. It's been freezing up more frequently.

Out of curiosity, does Microsoft tell you how much the repair will cost when you request it, or do they tell you when they're done with it?

When I requested the repair online, it said that the total cost would be $0.

It's telling you $0 because you should still be under warranty. The RROD extended warranty is 3 years. Your console isn't 3 years old (at least from when you bought it)

Yep, 3 year warranty covers the system. You might have to supply the box now though. All you send in is the console. Keep your HD and all of your cables. The warranty is pretty easy though.

                Oh, okay.

It did say that the Standard Warranty was expired. Nothing about a 2 yr. extension.

                That's a relief.

Thought I'd give you all an update:

I sent them my sytem out on 8/3. It took so long because I was in NY for a week. It got to the service center in TX on 8/6, and was just sent back to me on 8/8.

Does this seem like too quick of a turnaround or is it just me?

Nope.. sounds about right. They don't actually 'repair' your individual system. They just seem to swap the guts or the unit. Your Serial number is the same, but I never bothered to 'mark' my system to see what they replaced or not.

I must be one of the only people in the world who has purchased a 360 and had absolutely no problems with it. I read these posts and I'm like "boy I am sure lucky!" I'm sure its going to break one day, but almost 4 years in and the thing is still going strong. Crazy how this stuff works.
