  • GTA - San Andreas

Just wondering if anyone is playing this or has made it all the way through. I'm currently playing the PC version and am pretty addicted. I'm very surprised at how deep the game actually is.

I've played through it pretty much. Really fun and really addicting. The story is very inticing and you just keep going just to find out what's next. And there is really so much to do, even after beating it and getting 100%

There is a mod out there to let you play online multiplayer, been playing that and it's really fun. Good people and good servers, a lot of hackers though.

      Interesting. Thanks for the info.

I haven't gotten too far yet and am really anxious to unlock some of the other areas. I have a feeling it's going to be a while though.

        Re: GTA - San Andreas

I have actually played it quite a bit as well.

I think I have won the game twice. The last Mission is called "End of the Line" and the game actually ends with CJ on Grove Street.

I was like "That's it!?" the first time because the ending just hits you like BAM! and it is over. Oh well, that's a good sign though since I really enjoyed the game.

My favorite missions though were all located in Los Santos. Second would be the Las Venturas/country missions. Third (and least favorite) would be the San Fierro missions.

Hope you have fun with it Motorboat Cruiser.

Thanks! I must be because I find that I am not getting the same amount of sleep that I once did.

            Re: GTA - San Andreas

            One of my favorites.

I get annoyed when people dismis or decry it as a "prostitute simulator" or the like. If you play the game you discover a deep, fantastic storyline, amazingly accurate parody and satire about life in America, in depth gameplay that provides complete freedom, hundreds of hours worth of distractions and gameplay, beautiful landscapes, and base jumping.

It's probably the most perfect current gen game.

              Re: GTA - San Andreas

I couldn't agree more, thejoshualee. Granted, it is a violent game that probably isn't suitable for young kids but then again, who says that all games have to cater to all age groups.

I love the fact that if I don't feel like doing missions, there is plenty for me to do. And although I have yet to unlock the other cities, I still find, after hours upon hours of playing in Los Santos, that I haven't come close to seeing everything yet.

Here's a question: For those that have played both "San Andreas" and the earlier version "Vice City", how do they compare? I'm considering getting Vice City simply because I love San Andreas so much. Opinions?

                Re: GTA - San Andreas

San Andreas and the GTA series in general are groundbreaking in their styles to give you in-depth storylines, loads of free-time, and plenty of humor (both complex parodies and the lowly fart joke) The violence is there, yes, but it's not all bloodshed all the time. There is a lot of missions where you aren't to kill anyone and many times the character does feel some remorse about his actions.

As for comparing VC and SA. I played SA first and I went and "acquired" VC to try it out. I really like the graphics style with the car designs, character designs, etc. The storyline (as far as I got) was intriguing and Vercetti is a very fun main character. The missions are a lot harder in the beginning then SA's were. But I find some of the things SA added that VC are missing were really annoying, especially the fact you can't swim. In SA it's not a big deal as there isn't lots of water. But in VC the islands are tiny with mutiple bridges and one false move, you are in the water and dead. You also can't fly planes in VC which is a real bummer.

I have all 4 out for PS2 right now (GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, and Liberty City Stories) and Vice City was my second favorite, SA being first if only for the fact that I love seeing landmarks from LA and San Francisco throughout the game.

Vice City has the best music, and has a really neat second half where you buy assets and play missions for the assets you buy. If you liked SA, you'll like Vice City.

                  Hope that helps!

                    Re: GTA - San Andreas

Grand Theft Auto III begat Vice City, which begat San Andreas - and while each one uses similar gameplay, each one also improves upon the last one. All 3 of them are fantastically fun - but San Andreas is almost inarguably the best of them.

Playing them backwards will throw you off quite a bit, because it'll feel weird missing controls and such that were added later - for example, there was originally no flying in GTA III... with the exception of one Dodo (the small white plane found all over San Andreas airports) with its wings cut off. Amazingly, the game designers had included stuff like wind currents in the game code, even though flying wasn't supposed to really be part of the normal game play, and hardcore dedicated GTA III players found that, with great difficulty, they could actually coax the wingless Dodo to fly from island to island. It became so popular that limited flight options were later included in Vice City (there's a helicopter and a seaplane). From there, they expanded it even more in San Andreas, which has all sorts of interesting flight options (even though I've played the game a LOT, I still love flying the Harrier jet over the army base, and just seeing how much havoc I can cause before they finally manage to shoot me out of the air). Now, if you were to get used to San Andreas first, trying to fly the wingless Dodo in GTA III would probably drive you insane, since you're already used to full flight options... however, if you can look past that type of thing (and the fact that San Andreas is MUCH, much larger than Vice City - which was, in turn, much larger than GTA III), all three games are an absolute blast!

                      Re: GTA - San Andreas

Cool. I really appreciate the insight from y'all. I always anticipate that when I play an earlier version of a game, there will be things missing and it will bug me and require some adjustments. So, in that sense, I can live with it.

Still, if and when I make it through San Andreas, it would be cool to have another game in the same style to run through. And I must say, the screenshots that I have seen of Vice City are quite impressive. It might not be as big of a playing area but it still looks really good.

Probably the biggest factor however is that fact that my boyfriend is as equally hooked on San Andreas as I am, but only one of our computers has a DVD drive, which is the only way SA is avalable. So basically, I need something to do on his computer while he is playing SA on mine. I figure this would help pass the time while I wait for him to finish.

This game is really fun, although its should be rated M1/2 instead of M.

I think its rated AO now even though the new versions you can't access the "naughty" things anymore.

Don't waste your money on Vice City. Big waste of money since the graphics and gun pointing option are horrible when compared to GTA: SA.
