Probably not true but honestly wouldn't surprise me. I mean they stopped making UMD movies for it because nobody would buy them and the games for the PSP aren't really that great. My boyfriend and I got one for free and we barely even touch it. We play our DS more frequently.
Let me put it this way. Until Sony says officially they are stopping production then you can panic. If you hear it from anywhere else I would take it with a grain of salt. Besides I highly doubt they would stop production. It doesn't sell well, but it does sell.
i've herd from several differn't sources that sony will stop making the psp!
is this true?
i hope not cause i really liked the psp
Sony is not going to discontinue the PSP. In fact, there currently working on a redesign that will include a Hard Drive. The PSP Camera and GPS systems will be coming out next month, and Japan is getting a silver PSP late this year.
Honestly, doesn't surprise me. Nintendo owns the handheld market.
Not true. The current handheld market has shown that the PSP has been closer to a Nintendo handheld than any other handheld competitor. And while the DS is kicking the crap out of the PSP in Japan, worldwide they're relatively close.
The DS lite has certainly boosted recent DS sales though.

UMD movies have not been stopped either. Some major chains (Target, Wal-Mart I think) have stopped carrying them, but that was because of the price point. Recently UMD movies have been priced at $8.00, and they've been selling like crazy. Sony doesn't decide the price of UMD movies, the studios do, and as a result they priced them too high. Survey after survey has shown that if the price were lower, many people would buy UMD's, especially since they can have the same features as the DVD.
As for the games not being that great, well that's all personal opinion.

Certainly the price was and is the problem. I could never imagine paying 20-30 dollars for a movie that I can only watch on my PSP. I rather just get a DVD that I can play on many different players in my house, not to mention a portable DVD player that has a bigger screen than a PSP. I wonder if they'll be able to salvage it in the future considering like you said that Wal-Mart and Target have stopped carrying them. I don't see much of them around here even when I go to a GameStop or EB games.
Dang! I just got one of these things for my birthday! As for the movies there is a product out there where you can copy DVD's you own onto the PSP. I plan on doing that. I LOVE the Psycho Stuff Spooky Bear!
