  • Sony to Win Emmy for SIXAXIS

Granted, Sony did incorporate motion sensor and wireless technology into SIXAXIS, but it's ultimately less of a controller revolution than evolution of the existing Dual Shock -- yet the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences decided SIXAXIS worthy of Technology and Engineering Emmy Award at CES this year. The actual event takes place later tonight in Las Vegas, California.

To the PlayStation diehards on 1UP: what does the tear of an N-fan taste like?
Sony's XMB interface has also been nominated for "Outstanding Innovation and Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for the Best Use of Personal Media Display and Presentation Technology."
Gaming board moderators are having a field day with this topic!

Meh, I don't think there's been any real innovation in videogame control since the mouse and keypad. Everything is merely an evolution of an existing platform or idea, including the Wiimote.

Arrogant peice of work- whoever wrote that.

I am a Nintendo fan- I would never, under any circumstance shed a tear or otherwise give a rodent's arse about this.

    Whatever-

I'm reminded of a line from the Simpsons:

Lisa:This award show is the biggest farce I ever saw.
      Bart: What about the Emmys?
      Lisa: I stand corrected

Just to add on, Nintendo wasn't at the CES so thats why they didn't win.

Someone on another forum found a great find. Most of the stories about Sony winning were posted in the morning, and this guy found out that the awards were awarded at 7:00 PM yesterday, and who would have guessed, Nintendo won too!

So it looks like the winners found out before and Sony went and told the media and forgot to mention that Nintendo won too.

*rolls eyes* Taking years old technology and upon seeing the innovation that is the Wiimote, decide to add in some accelerometers. Yawn. Somehow that's enough for some "award". Hmm. Interesting indeed...

Wait, Sony made an assumption. They did win an award, just not for best new controller. Check this out.

Imagine that-Nintendo wins an award as well- not a word. No- just Sony fans acting like fools.

                  Whatever-

Turns out also that the SixAxis never actually won the award. The Dual-Shock did. The Academy guys actually came out and cleared the air over it.

It was nominated by our internal group and considered along with the Nintendo D-Pad both of which were considered Emmy worthy for the development of the generation of controllers that followed the classic joysticks.

I would like to confirm that Sony did not win for their PS3 controller, they won for their Dual Shock Analog controller.

why does everyone think the wiimote is some advanced technology?

I remember when it was on the NES and called the power glove.

Ya know, I have to say it's kind of entertaining to see this whole "My fave toy is better than your fave toy!" attitude that's running amok in these threads. People can't even discuss anything anymore without someone coming in and saying, "But my toy's better! So neener!"

It's like a trip back to elementary school. I feel young again!

I think I'll submit this concept as a reality show:

                          "Toy Wars"

It's controller versus controller in this playground war! Watch as opposing game system fans battle it out to prove who is the most technologically knowledgeable while the world keeps spinning on its axis. Each week, the most mature response is voted out of the battle, until it becomes a sudden death match of 5-year-old wit!

                            meh- I'm apathetic.

If a controller works on a game I want to play- cool. I will buy systems as I need them to play the games I want to play-it's not about the hardware for me- just my games.

I think I may give in and buy Twilight Princess today for GC

Oh- my ONLY rave about controllers was when I got wavebirds for my GC- I love being wireless. PS has them too- I will get them someday too-

                            whooppee huh?

You've obviously never been to a video game forum. Its about 1,000 times worse than this.
