edit: I found the definition of stanchion:
from Wikipedia:
an architectural term applied to the upright iron bars in windows which pass through the eyes of the saddle bars or horizontal irons to steady the lead lights.
I read this and im like: What the HECK?! Why in the world would we need to have that word in VMK!?!

Applied loosely the term can also apply to any upright pole-type object. Such as the poles that hold up the room divider ropes.
