  • GTA IV set in Liberty City

When the Grand Theft Auto IV trailer first unspooled last month, there was much debate on whether or not it was set in New York City. The preview clearly showed New York landmarks such as the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. However, frame-by-frame analysis showed a ship registered to Liberty City, the setting of Grand Theft Auto III, as well as the Liberty Tree newspaper featured in that game.

Now, it appears that both theories are right. Leaked scans of the Game Informer's May issue indicate it will feature a major story on Grand Theft Auto IV that reveals many details of the game. One such nugget of information was that yes, the game will be set in Liberty City--but it won't be the same metropolis as GTA III.

The no airplanes comment made me think just how realistic this game is going to be or if they are simply just trying to eliminate any more negative publicity than they will already get.

I can't wait until this game comes out though, its only 6 more months or so. Woooo!

Whats the difference between GTA 3 and Vice City Vs. Liberty city stories and vice city stories?

They also mention that versions for 360 and PS3 will arrive in October, so now I don't have to worry about buying a PS3!

Man, I want airplanes in this game. It gives you more ways to screw around and have fun. And John, it was announced at last years E3 that both versions would come out at the same time

Other than different story elements absolutely nothing. The games as far as I know have the same city layout and everything, just a different story (and of course both the 'Stories' debuted on the PSP before coming to the PS2).

Different story, different characters, different vehicles, missions, etc. Graphics are better.

Pretty much the only thing that's the same is the map, and even then, it's a little bit different.
