UK PlayStation Portable owners will soon be able to turn their handheld into a mobile phone thanks to a deal between Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and BT, which adds high-quality video calls, voice calls and text messaging to the PSP.
As part of the four-year contract a host of new features will be available for the handheld, enabling it to make video and voice calls over the Internet using BT's already-established broadband services. At first the PSP will only be able to communicate with other PSP owners and users of BT's Softphone service, which enables PC owners to communicate with other Softphones via the Internet. However, eventually new features will be added to ensure PSP owners can call and message PCs, land lines and mobile phones.
Video calls is cool, I don't see it replacing my cell phone, but I can think of lots of benefits of having a video call.
"Hey look at the new pirates stunt show on TSI!"
Too bad its not a real videophone like you can get in the rest of the world Video sounds like PSP to PSP only. Over there you can get a 3G video handset and make video calls to other 3G handsets or H324 gateways.
I get drunken video calls from Europe all the time where my friends are like 'check out this girl I just met...' too funny
