Best Video Game Console EVER

I thought it would be interesting to look back at the most popular video game consoles and see which ones would be our favorites.

For me, it's gotta be the NES (the original), the SNES (the original done better), the PS2 and the Wii with probably the PS2 coming out on top.

I voted for NES. I remember when it came out and how excited my brother and I were to get it for Christmas one year. My entire family played it together. I remember my mom being so mad at my dad because he woke my brother and I up at midnight on a school night because he passed level 6 on Zelda! I love my Wii, but nothing will compare to that youthful fun we had as a family with the OG NES!

Currnetly my fav console is my Xbox 360.

I've been a Sega fanboy for a while the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast were all my favs of their generation.

For old school I loved my Atari 2600/5200, but Colecovision was the best for me back then. Another of my favs of all time was the Vectrex it was so different then anything else of it's time, and had a couple of the coolest hardware add-ons for it too.

Seriously, I'm all for the PS2. I love it and have had it for years ... some of my favorites are Ninja Assault, Time Crisis, Resident Evil, and Guitar Hero.

Awww come on I liked Mario 64, Mario Kart, Banjo Kazooie, Turok, Ocarina of Time, etc. on the N64 also! It was the first thing with the rumble packs I remember.. :P

My vote is for the original NES out of the pure nostalgia factor. Zelda, Metroid, Mario, the trifecta of video game goodness.

Star Fox, don't forget Star Fox. I once quit a job to go play that game. I voted for SNES as well, it really was the one that set me up to be who I am today (I work at a game publisher).

The original playstation would have never done ANYWHERE as good as it did if the N64 had CD instead of cartridge.

I mean in the sense that they made a system that everyone wanted. I am in no way diminishing the accomplishments that the N64 made and the innovations it brought to gaming (Analog control,rumble etc)

Ocarina of Time still ranks as one of my favorite games of all time. And I will never forget the hours playing classics such as Mario Kart, Mario 64,Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Majora's Mask. Plus my favorite WWE/F game ever is on N64: WWF No Mercy

PS2 gets my vote. Best selling console, still sells hard, first console to successfully integrate multimedia features, huge variety of titles, online play...

NES is the obvious nostalgia favorite, but the PS2 pwns.

If only Nintedo wouldnt have screwed Sony over and partnered with them instead of going with another company for the failed SNES CD drive. Gaming history mightve been altered forever.

Yeah..... That will never ever ever happen. Sony would rather go bankrupt than team up with Nintendo. Sony has too much pride and ego.

The Super Nintendo had so much. My personal favorite is the N64, it didn't have many games, but I loved the games that I had.

from what I hear Sony had some pretty rotten things planned out in that deal were they were going to try to assimilate Nintendo and take away most of the freedom of the company before Nintendo backed out

CD tech just wasn't ready at the time that deal was going down but sadly Nintendo took that too literally and became afraid of using it in the N64 (rationalizing the failure of the SegaCD)



SNES has got a big vote from me, first console I owned really has everything NES had except better first system to really be based on the bigger better concept, GREAT third party support (last time a Nintendo system's had that though the Wii may turn those fortunes around if it's sales keep up)

I suppose in my book once you add in Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG (and most SquareEnix games), Megaman X and all the first party games there's just no beating the SNES



I clicked other to also cast a vote for PS1, historicaly the N64 contributed alot to the development of games into 3D but sadly it was just a system that didn't have the same market penetration or stock of games, but the PS1 did establish Sony and it had the majority of the titles even if that majority wasn't all that innovative it was just a fun system to own and you just can't argue with the variety it had



I suppose my ultimate vote will always be SNES because it was the system were I didn't have to compromise, it was superior technically in it's day and I could get Nintendo's first party games AND great third party games, no other system has really offered that I'm always torn between my favorite third party's and my love of first party Nintendo, probably why I started doing a every other generation strategy (never had the money to buy em all at least not quick enough, my N64 came at the end of the systems lifetime and by then I had picked up a cube and was livin teh future within a few months)

I was planning on a PS3 but then the price was so ridiculous (yes I know the pricing deal is good on the one hand but for what I'd get out of it...) I decided to stick around with my trusty old Nintendo at least for nowz :B

I voted Sega Genesis mainly because it was the first system I owned (and Street Fighter II). Followed by SNES, PSone, and Playstation 2.

Still enjoying my Playstation 2. As a kid though my brother and I played our Atari 2600. Went through quite a few controllers.
Books and books of Atari cartridge games. Good times.
