    Anyone else get it? Discuss!

I REALLY enjoy this game... I think the price tag is well worth it for what you get and, hands down, it is MUCH better then Guitar Hero.

Rock Band rules! I love most of the songs, the downloadable content is awesome, and the online rules. I just bought the game and used my Guitar Hero II controller which works great, and yeah, I doubt I'll ever play Guitar Hero II again.

We may be getting an Xbox 360 from Belle's Boss (he wants one of the newer ones). If we do this will be our first purchase.

$170 for this is IMO a GREAT deal especially considering that Guitar Hero III by itself is $90.

You can use your Guitar Hero controller if you prefer it.

Unless Harmonix and Activision came to an agreement, you can't.

I had two different people tell me they are using thier GH3 guitar on the 360 since thier RB guitar broke. They both tell me they are having no issues using the GH3 guitar in any way and did not have to DL anything. Granted they may be full of it, but thats what I heard. And since I have no GH or RB I really can not test it out on my own.

I did some more homework and you are completely correct. The guitars ARE compatible, just not on the PS3.

                  Re: Rock Band

Up until today, I didn't think we would enjoy the rhythm games that much, but we picked up GH3 today and we are having a blast with it. I know RB is going to be my next buy now! Bree loves playing SingStar, so having the ability for me to play guitar while she sings is too much to resist!

I'm just glad I picked up GH3 for 360 and not for PS3 now, with the lack of compatibility between GH3 and RB. I ALMOST bought it for PS3 since it was all I could find, but I lucked out at BB today and got the first one of their latest shipment.

                    Re: Rock Band

Very little compares to the fun of having a full band.

unfortunately, everyone I knows who bought the game is having hardware issues. Our own guitar and drums don't work. We were going to send the drums back, but they sent another guitar instead of the box for the drums. They told us to just keep the guitar for free (yes!) and to send the drum pads back in the guitar box... but they don't fit so we are waiting for a reply from them.

Playing on a working drum set (with a singer, guitar and bass playing as well) is completely kick-***.

Singing is a thrill too. All the karaoke games previous to this just didn't let you unleash the screaming, howling, rock star inside.

I saw they have this for the PS2 now as well.

You can play it with just Guitar or just guitar and bass right?

I was thinking of picking it up and just using it as Guitar Hero 4 or something.

I'm thinking I'll wait until the hardware issues are worked out before picking this up on the 360 (that we don't have yet anyway).

                        Re: Rock Band

I was *thisclose* to getting Rock Band when I read about the incompatibility issues.

What I want is to buy Rock Band (+accessories, for $160 total) and one extra guitar with Guitar Hero 3 ($80) so that I can play Rock Band (with 4 people), and Guitar Hero 3.

But no. They've gotta make it difficult.

Now it seems like I'd have to purchase Rock Band (+accessories), PLUS an extra $60something for a RB bass guitar (that's how much they cost, right?), PLUS Guitar Hero 3 PLUS an extra guitar hero guitar.

So that jumps from $240 to $360 for two games. Eff that. (not to mention, where the heck am I gonna store TWO extra guitars).

Yeah, I don't get why the PS3 version isn't compatable with the GHIII guitars. Makes no sense to me.

Are Rock-Band guitars compatable with the GHIII game for the PS3? My guess would be no.

I bet its ironically because of how Microsoft 'controls' peripherals for xbox.

All peripherals for the xbox *MUST* work on a windows machine... so there is a common baseline devices must adhere too. So harmonix probably wanted to NOT let the devices work together, but maybe had to indirectly due to the 'baseline' required.

                                  Re: Rock Band

Well, there's a debate going on about why the Guitar Hero III controllers don't work with the PS3 version of Rock Band... and it has nothing to do with Microsoft.

The GH controllers WERE supposed to be compatible with Rock Band (hell, it was pretty much advertised by Harmonix as such since the game was first announced) on all three formats (360, PS3, and the PS2)... Harmonix says that Sony has the patch already to make the GHIII controllers compatible. Activision says that Harmonix didn't want to pay a licensing fee and that actually Harmonix is holding the patch up. It's a game of "he said, she said" right now.

Added to the fact that you can't use the PS2 controllers at all as well (even with an PS2/PS3 adapter, which then adds considerable amounts of lag)... it sucks. I don't know if the GHII PS2 controllers work out of the box on the PS2 version of Rock Band... I would say it probably does since it's a standard controller.

My thoughts? Activision is probably the one at fault here. Harmonix knows that there are plenty of Guitar Hero controllers out there and will do everything that they can to make it compatible (hence their announcement that they will be since the original game announcement)... Activision will do anything to try to block the momentum that Rock Band has right now (more positive press about Rock Band then there has been about Guitar Hero III)... the XBox controllers just work straight out of the box, probably no way Activision could have blocked that, it's just sad that Sony has probably some weird controller scheme for the PS3 that required a firmware system patch by them to be pushed out to make it work. Harmonix probably didn't expect Activision to have the clout with Sony to block it. That's what I think.

... and yah, Rock Band is hella cool and fun to play. Especially drunk.

Then why is this battle ONLY on the PS3 and why isn't activision trying to do the same thing on the 360? Its likely because they CAN'T - so the irony is the 'iron fist' of Microsoft forcing vendors to have a baseline - is actually helping the customers.

Exactly... 360 controllers are standard USB because they also have to be compatible with Windows. I can plug in a wired XBox 360 controller to my computer and it works (well, with Vista it requires a driver download). I can also plug in the XBox Live Vision camera and it works with Windows... plug-in accessories for the 360 were designed to work with the PC as well because the 360 is so similar to regular PC hardware architecture. That's just a good thing period.

Funny thing is, the PS3 wired controllers are also standard USB as well... so why don't they work? The fault probably lies with Sony as well, probably having some weird hardware architecture scheme with their console.
