Xbox 360 question

Hey guys! I want to get my Hub an Xbox 360 for Christmas and I know that he wants one with and HDMI thingy... I really have no clue as to what a "good" bundle is. Premium? Elite? 40 gigabites or 120 gb? I want to spend about $350 and it needs to come with at least a wireless controller.


Any words of advice?!

You have 3 systems to choose from, the Arcade, Pro and Elite. Here is a link to the differences between the 3 versions.

While it isn't listed, the Pro does come with an HDMI output as long as you buy from a retailer that moves product. The box will come with component cables, but you will have to pop for an HDMI cable if that is the way you go.

I would recommend the Pro for the harddrive. Once you connect to the internet and access XBox Live, he will want it for the downloadable content and demos.

Speaking of internet connection, the console will come with an ethernet cable, but a wireless adapter is another $100 if your router isn't close to the console.

Right now, the Pro is also being bundled with Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. FM2 is a BEAUTIFUL racing sim that will give him a lot of enjoyment. Marvel, I have no experience with.

After that, he has access to a huge selection of games fitting most categories. Good luck!

we bought the pro version. It comes with the racing game and a comic fighter type game. My BF is addicted to the racing game. He has been playing it all day for days on end now.

Ahhh! Thanks guys! Doing this is so hard, becasue I want to ask him so many questions about it, but then it would give the surprise away! His mom and mine are going in with me! SO stoked!

I think I'm going to go with the Pro.. the only differnce between the Elite and the Pro is the 120 mb hard drive, right? And the hard drives are upgrade-able? That and the color of the system... I think.

I'm kind of cursing myself for not getting up at the butt-crack of dawn and getting an awesome deal on Black Friday. At Bestbuy, thye ahd the 360 Pro plus the Guitar hero 2 or 3 with controller for the regualt $349. Another place had the 360 with two wireless controllers and a game for the regular $349. I'm still determined to get a deal on top of the one that everystore has out (one controller, and the two games).

I'm also going to get him that Assassin Creed game. He was playing his brother's 360 on Thanksgiving and kept oogling. The best part is... he LOVES getting used games! Score! Now, I just have to find a use copy.

I love him.. he's such a little kid when it come to this stuff! <3 I love Christmas!

Finding a used Assasin's Creed will be difficult considering it came out only a week or so ago. But here's a little tip: Gamestop/EB Games are having a deal where if you buy 2 used games, you get one free.

No it's definately still going on. Just went into one of my local GS today where it seemed like I was the only one buying new games (let's forget the part that they are all less than a month old save phoenix wright 3 but...). I'll look around for the end date but I'd say 12/09 because that's the same day their big trade-in deal ends.

I'm sorry, I wished you could have found out sooner.
Used games are always a deal though if you don't mind them (I, however, only get used if that's my only opinion, I usually buy New)

Even if you find a used copy of Assasins Creed it'll still only be reduced by like five or six dollars. It's so new that Gamestop/EB (one of the only retailers that sells used titles) will just reduce the price by only a few dollars.

Yeah, you're better off finding a deal on ebay, which is tricky in and of itself when a game is first released.

A game has to be out for like a year before the used prices drop substantially (unless it is a bad game, in which case, why would you want it to begin with).

Ahhhh. OK. Maybe I'll get it new but, wait for a few weeks to see if any of the stores (Best buy, Target, EB, ect..) have the "BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR" type thing. You know.. some random Wednesday where everything is 47% off or something random like that.

ANd what's up with the charging stations for the controllers? Can we just put conventional batteries in them or does it have to be the Xbox rechargeables?

I use standard rechargeable batteries in my 360 and Wii controllers. They work fine without having to add another plug to my gaming center.

Yeah, we have a Sony rechargeable batter station thing. Are they only going with cordless controllers for this system? Not that I'd buy the corded ones... Last year I bought Dustin some wireless Ps2 controllers and he LOVES them.

If you go Pro, they are wireless. I don't think I've ever seen the wired ones sold aftermarket now that you mention it. Buy only MS controllers. The others don't work as well.

I don't know what your budget is, but if you get the pro version it will come with one wireless controller. Pick up another wireless one (depending on your budget of course) if he likes to play with friends etc. or you like to play games with him.

The wireless controllers are such an awesome feature and are totally worth the additional dollars!

Call Gamestop and EB and ask what the trade in is on the two games. considering they're bundled games, they are probably not worth much on trade.
