  • Virtual Magic Kingdom

There's a video game apparently coming from Disney called Virtual Magic Kingdom. It's a "persistent world," meaning it never shuts down online. People join up when they want, and leave when they want for the day. The term is MMOG: massive multiplayer online game. Plenty of other companies have this kind of thing already.

But this one will be set in the Magic Kingdom (no word on whether it will be DL or WDW, but I'm betting on Florida).

I just might have to play this one!

“The press [should be] a watchdog. Not an attack dog. Not a lapdog. A watchdog. Now, a watchdog can't be right all the time. He doesn't bark only when he sees or smells something that's dangerous. A good watchdog barks at things that are suspicious.” – Dan Rather

I know someone who works for Disney Online. He said that the game is mostly a marketing thing. You'll have a character, and you can collect items and change your outfit, stuff like that. He also said that it would be very similar to Habbo Hotel (http://www.habbohotel.com), which has a similar set up, but the theming would of course be disney.

I was exited when I first heard about this from the Disney Annual Report, but I'm not sure now, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

    Hope that helps.

              VMK looks cool at least

I have seen many of the graphics for the game, and while I can't comment on the actual game play (some of the Ideas are really cool, and will be very exciting if they can pull it off) The graphics are beautifull. The game isn't really set in DL or WDW, it is set in kind of a hybrid/fantasy Disney park. It should be very cool when it is finally launched.

Looks like a cross between the Sims and RCT. Should be fun.

From all reports so far, the cost will be free.

The Annual report says sometime this year, but I'd bet toward the end of it. Having not seen Jay Rasulo's powerpoint presentation, the graphics do look truly amazing, certainly better then I'd thought they would be. I'm actually exited to play this now, but I am still curious as to what you'll actually be able to do.

Does anyone know if it will be mac-compatible? Habbo Hotel is but toontown.com isn't so I'm a little skeptic.

A MMORPG would be great if set in a Disney universe! That is an absolutely genius idea, my mouth is foaming at the thought...

Anyone remember the Disneyland game for the NES system?
