  • Wii maker pushing weight-loss for women.

Do you think that they will upset their target audience marketing outside their demographic?

Nintendo's Wii gaming console introduced sedentary gamers to the idea of moving off the couch. Now Nintendo (NTDOY, news, msgs) is coming out with the Wii Fit, an add-on to the gaming system designed to appeal to women looking to lose weight.

We have Wii-Fit on pre-order because it looks fun, not because it will help us lose weight.

The only "Video Game" that I've seen that can REALLY give you an aerobic workout is Dance Dance Revolution. It actually does work. Other than that, I'll have to see/play Wii-Fit to see.

Nintendo is marketing to it's demographic by coming out with the Wii Fit. People just aren't understanding that the definition of a "gamer" has changed to include all of these new categories.

This unit has sold well over almost 1.9 million units in Japan alone and is expecting to do huge here with the largest marketing blitz they have ever put out.

Here is a review for the unit

I had some workout type game (forget the name) for the PS2 that used the eye toy as well. I really enjoyed it and got a good workout from it, although don't play it now since the area I workout in at the moment is pretty cramped to allow for the movement I need.

right now the Wii Fit is the best selling item in video games on Amazon. It's outselling what is arguably one of most anticipated games for the hardcore market, GTA IV.
