  • Hands-on with Disney Infinity 2.0: Initial thoughts and an announcement!

Got to have a play with Disney Infinity 2.0 at Comic-Con today and I think we have a winner! I was watching it played on multiple platforms and played it on the Xbox One. Controls are nearly identical to 1.0 which makes it very nice to just jump in and play. The only real difference control-wise is the special attacks and the skill tree. Both the Marvel and Disney characters have greatly expanded skills and a skill tree, enabling you to customize the attacks and defenses of each individual. This makes it so that say, if you want to have Groot be a defensive specialist, you can do that. If you want Maleficent to be a close combat specialist, you can do that. Graphics-wise, I can see why they chose not to go with a platform with hardware limitations like the Wii. The polygons and textures in this make 1.0 look like 8-bit Atari. Rendering is smooth and the lighting is spectacular.

I think, though, that the Guardians of the Galaxy playset can be a bit difficult and should be geared towards older players. Something should be done to address the balance there because characters like Drax just tear through much of the game. Rocket is a hell of a lot fun to play, and his dialogue is very spot-on with the comic books.

They also announced that the Collector's Edition will be Sony-exclusive for the PS3 and PS4 platforms. I preordered the edition and got a Groot figure early, as well as a limited edition Rocket poster. The figure is nice, but I'm still going to have to wait until September 23rd to play with it since he won't work in 1.0.

It was also announced today that Loki is going to be making his appearance in the Avengers playset as a figure! So excited for this, as I can see many a Thor and Loki team-up in my future!
Amnesia used to be my favourite word, but I forgot it.

I was at the Marvel Video Games panel this afternoon and in addition to Loki, Johnny V announced Ronan The Accuser and Green Goblin as playable villains! Much excite!
