  • Happy 50th Anniversary, Twilight Zone

Here on MiceChat, "Zonie" means a MiceChatter from Arizona.

Well, I've been a Zonie since long before I ever heard of the Internet, or before I even visited Arizona.

I've been a "Zonie" since the first time I was old enough to understand and fully enjoy Rod Serling's masterpiece. By then, it already in reruns.

Well, it was 50 years ago this week - in the fall of 1959...that this revolutionary show made its debut on CBS.

Yes, I know that there have been other threads devoted to favorite TZ episodes and the like.

There's always room for one more!

    Especially on the 50th anniversary.

My all-time favorite - "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street". Martians experiment with human behavior by doing relatively simple things like cutting off power to a suburban neighborhood to see what happens.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Billy Mumy...who was in several episodes.

Including another of my favorites, "In Praise of Pip" with Jack Klugman.

I have a bunch of favorites. "The Living Doll" with Telly Savalas and "A Game of Pool" with Jonathan Winters are my top two.

I always enjoyed this show when I was young, and even today when I catch an episode. Some great stories. It is always fun to spot actors in them, early in their careers.

Great ones mentioned so far everybody, and great ones.

"The Hitchiker" has always been one of my favorites as well as "It's a good life" (where they took the intro for Tower of Terror from).

Arguably the best TV show ever made (must fight with The Simpsons), my fav episode is "The After Hours" but there are many good ones.
I like The Happiest Millionaire. What's wrong with that?

Does KTLA still run Twilight Zone marathons on Thanksgiving? I remember those fondly. Nothing like a TZ marathon to develop appreciation for the series.

It's fun finding the references too on Tower of Terror. Hey Barry, did you ever at least go through the queue of that ride?

Re: Happy 50th Anniversary, Twilight Zone

I love "The Twilight Zone". I taped one of the marathon's a long time ago, commercials and all. Rod Serling was a genius who left us too soon.

It's so hard to chose just one episode. So i got to go with a few:

                          "One for the Angels"

                          "Nice place to visit"

                          "The Silence"

                          "A Kind of Stopwatch"

I could go on, but "The Twilight Zone" is one of the most enduring television shows ever, and a groundbreaker for not only the half hour horror/thriller genre, but for single-camera, well written drama.
"Here you leave Today and enter the world of Yesterday, Tomorrow and Bankruptcy!"

Maybe for once, someone will call me "Sir" without saying, "You're making a scene!"

No. KTLA stopped some years back. But the SciFi (or SyFy or whatever) still does, at least at New Year's and other holidays. The may still be showing two episodes a night - they used to, anyway - as did KDOC-TV Ch. 56, which is on my Directv local channels even though I live a good three hours north of their studios.

Yeah, that doesn't really surprise me. Local television's gone downhill since the 80s.

Not true... KTLA in Los Angeles ALWAYS has a Thanksgiving Twilight Zone Marathon. Starts at 9am this year. Here are the promos I did for it this year -- FEATURING the voice of Disney's Twilight Zone Tower of Terror!

I stand corrected. My bad. Glad to see that KTLA is still doing this. And the spots are brilliant! You work at KTLA?

I remember when they had episodes every night on 5. That is going back awhile. For now its SciFi, and Ch.56 out of the OC.

Thanks! Yup... I'm the Senior producer in promotions at KTLA. These were my idea -- I recently moved back after growing up here in the 70's/80's and LOVED the marathon. Wanted to make it bigger this year since it meant so much to me. Even had a say in which episodes played!
