  • Bad Dinosaur: Dino's Delay Leads to Layoff at Pixar

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Pixar has laid off “an undisclosed number of people at its Emeryville, Calif., headquarters due to the delay of its forthcoming film The Good Dinosaur.”

While no concrete numbers are available yet, the layoffs are rumored to affect less than 5% of the company’s 1,200 employees.

Animation fans may recall that this past summer, The Good Dinosaur‘s original director, Bob Peterson, was removed from the project. A month later, the film was pushed back from its original release date of May 30, 2014, to Nov. 25, 2015. This delay has left Pixar without a movie for 2014.

In related news, Pixar closed its Vancouver studios last month, laying off approximately 80 employees.

My deepest condolences to those folks who have lost their jobs.

Re: Bad Dinosaur: Dino's Delay Leads to Layoff at Pixar

It's sadly to be expected - when they replaced the director a bit ago, it signaled a lack of faith in where the film was headed - and if they're pushing production back due to rewrites or what have you they'd likely let at least some of the contracted staff go. Animation's a brutal industry. Know someone who spent three months animating the collapse of a section of a NY landmark who got cut and then spent the next couple years waiting for ANYONE to call when the project didn't result in the box office the production team was hoping for.

Hopefully Good Dinosaur rights itself soon and they are called back in.
    Boggard LIEEEEF!
