  • Stan Lee Media suing Disney over Marvel rights

Kinda surprised this hasn't been discussed:

Stan Lee Media sues Disney for billions over Marvel rights - Yahoo! News
“No worries, stay calm, one question.
Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?”

I think it's because this is fully without Merit and doesn't involve Stan Lee AT ALL. Stan Lee left "Stan Lee Media" long ago.

This isn't really clear from this horridly written article. Doesn't Reuters have editors anymore?

Prime example of the need for an editor:

"This lawsuit is without merit," Walt Disney said in a statement. "It arises out of the same core facts and legal claims that have been rejected by three federal district court judges."
So awesome they got a quote from Walt.

        They unfroze Walt....

The article also says Stan Lee assigned the rights to Stan Lee Media in 1998 while the same article states that Stan Lee Media was formed in 1999....

The official document that Stan Lee Media filed is listed below:

          http://www.businessinsider.com/docum...fringement.pdf

I really don't know how to go about this. On one hand SLMI is just hungry for money, evident as they have gone into litigation and tried - unsuccessfully - to sue Lee himself over the matter. If SLMI wins, then does Disney sue Lee for the same value as he "mis-sold" Marvel the rights?

And to take it another step .... no one was more supportive of the Disney acquisition of Marvel than Stan Lee, believing it was the best chance for the sustainability of the Marvel characters (including his own creations) for years into the future.

This Stan Lee Media outfit now sounds like a bunch of money grubbing lawyers looking for a judge somewhere that may actually give them the time of day.

From my quick reading of this, it seems SLMI went bankrupt some time ago. This is becoming a common legal money grab. Someone finds a connection to a "dead" company that technically is still on the books, buys it for a few bucks, then tries suing around to see if they can get a payout. (See SCO v. IBM (and other companies they sued) for a great example of this).

Basically, I wouldn't loose any sleep over this... other than lawyers will be collecting fees left and right, but in many of these cases, you'll find the Law Office(s) that filed these are the "owners" of the (thought to be) defunct company.

Reuters = lol worthy journalism (if you call whatever they are writing journalism these days)

Lawsuits = money & greed (if Stan Lee had an issue about the fact the Walt Disney Co owns Marvel, he should've legally said so before they bought Marvel)

Attorneys = they own everyone one of us no thanks to frivolous court cases

Eisner = a nickname for that migraine I get every single time the Walt Disney Co gets into a situation it shouldn't be in

Again, this is "Stan Lee Media" and has no affiliation with the actual Stan Lee.
