  • Black Cauldron - Newspaper Ad from LA Times, 1985

I found this online today and thought I'd share it for anyone interested.

This is a newspaper ad from the Los Angeles Times, dated July 23, 1985, advertising the release the next day of The Black Cauldron. You can see all the Southern California theaters that opened the film (many of them now gone), including drive-in theaters. Highlights include the 70mm 6-track Dolby Stereo presentations (including the Chinese in Hollywood, and the now-demolished Orange Cinedome) and the fact that the film was accompanied with a Donald Duck short. Also notice the tie-in advertising of Disneyland at the bottom of the ad. An interesting point, too, is the area code of some cities, which today are now something else, as well as the absence of the area code for those theaters in the 213 area code.

Its a fine film for me...but I think the ad gives it a little too much praise
