Squee! I just saw the trailer for this and it looks really awesome. I have been a huge fan of the Oz books and of course Wizard of Oz original movie(s) since I was about ten. *crosses fingers that Disney puts a face character of Oz in the parks* XD~
^ I'm kind of having the same reaction. I want to be looking forward to this, but I'm just not.
Funny enough, they say the "Producer of Alice in Wonderland" which for a second makes me think "Tim Burton" ... but if you look at IMDB Tim Burton isn't involved. They've just stolen the look and feel of his recent movies (which haven't worked for me). I had a whole Tim Burton rant laid out but I will reserve it I guess.
I'm assuming the Producer they are referring to is Joe Roth?
As for Sam Raimi ... I'll admit that the Spiderman movies he did were mostly a miss for me as well. Especially 3, but I didn't really care for any of them. In fact, I liked the recent movie better than any of his.
Sad that Raimi seems to get a pass due to Evil Dead, but that was 30 years ago. What have you done for me lately Sam? Or at least in the last 30 years? Answer ... NOTHING.

haha, yeah. i kept thinking "what happened to you Burton?! you have great works such as Beetlejuice, Batman, and Edward Scissorhands. now Willy Wonka and Alice?!"
i'm right there with you. the Spider-Man films never really stuck w/ me (no pun intended). i couldn't get into them, and i gave all 3 a shot. i just didn't like the style and the cast. i have yet to see The Amazing Spider-Man but i have a feeling i would like it more just because it's an entirely different crew.
and Alice in Wonderland was a SNORE FEST!! i remember sitting in that theater bored as hell, waiting for it to be over. and i went into it excited and anxious. what a complete turn around. as for the girl who played Alice, it might as well have been Kristen Stewart because she had the same monotone personality throughout the entire film. i kept reading here on MC how people praised her doing a great job as Alice and i couldn't stop thinking, "are you all deaf and blind?! did you all hear and see her mediocre performance?!" ugh, i despise that film so much...
so you can see why i'm reaaally cautious about Oz The Great and Powerful ; )
It's not. Tim Burton is not involved with this movie.
Tim Burton didn't have anything to do with Spiderman as far as I know.
And you are right, he's not involved, but you can't tell me the trailer doesn't scream "Tim Burton". So they are basically trying to make a Tim Burton movie without Tim Burton.

Maybe he was going to produce or direct it at one time in the past, when they had just started with the early developement of it, and thats why it may seem like something that Tim Burton is involved with ?

A quick trek through Wikipedia to connect the dots
Right on the money - Oz the Great and Powerful is a Disney movie made by something called Roth Studios and producer Joe Roth who was also the producer of Alice in Wonderland.
As for Sam Raimi and the Spiderman Trilogy credit. After it seems as almost everyone was predicting a Not-So-Amazing Spiderman with the reboot, many have been pleasantly surprised how much they enjoyed the new film including me. My memory of the Raimi directed Spiderman was better than the actual movie. In my memory I thought Raimi's Spiderman was terrific but after watching it again last weekend to compare the two, it certainly is no better than the current version. Both have their plusses and minusses.
The worst character in the original Spiderman series is the one portrayed by James Franco, the sad sack poor little rich boy Harry Osborn. Now Franco is the great and powerful Oz. Robert Downey Jr. was once attached to the Oz project. Now that would have been something to be inspired about.
