  • Burton's Billion Dollar 'Alice In Wonderland' getting a Sequel

    Alice In Wonderland
EW confirms that the Disney-attached script is being written by Linda Woolverton, who also wrote the screenplay for 2010′s 3-D fantasy box office hit starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Mia Wasikowska as Alice, and wild-eyed Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Other return figures are Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd as producers.

Woolverton has worked with Disney for years, writing screenplays for 1991′s glorious, animated Beauty and the Beast, 1993′s dog tale Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, 1994′s The Lion King, and the upcoming Sleeping Beauty re-imagining Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning.

      Very exciting news!

I think Woolverton is an extremely talented writer, and very much admired her work on the first film. I'll be be interested to see what direction she has in mind this go around!

While I enjoy Tim Burton's creativity, and the 2010 offering was visually stunning, I didn't feel the story was strong and because of that the acting suffered as well.

Huge Alice fan here and quite looking forward to it. I liked the last one, it had it's weaknesses but the strengths outweighed them for me. Curious to see where they take the story, the last was quite unique. Still waiting for the American Mcgee version, but we won't get that from Disney.

I'm surprised it took the Walt Disney Co this long to announce a sequel (or will it be a prequel?)) to Tim Burton's ALICE ... I know, another sequel (or prequel?) vs. a new project being greenlit, but like every Hollywood Studio? Walt Disney Pictures is investing in what it knows will reap a profit .... I enjoyed the movie, but I enjoyed it more in 2D (I did not see any reason to make this a 3D film) and wonder where else writer Linda Woolverton from the books of Lewis Carroll (ie The Hunting of the Snark, The Walrus and the Carpenter, A Tangled Tale, Phantasmagoria) ...
