  • Is Disney Planning Major Moves in Canada?

While the American press are all over recent Disney announcements of layoffs and restructuring, The Walt Disney Company may be making some serious steps towards moving major operations to Canada.

Take a look at the WDC office building in Toronto...

Rumor has it that, beyond moving major studio projects to Canada, Disney is in serious talks to purchase the existing Calaway Park theme park (and surrounding land) near Calgary, Alberta for future "Disneyfication". Lots of land for future expansion, hotels, and resort facilities...

Lower production costs have driven many Hollywood productions to Canada, and now a possible major Disney studio presence and theme park!

(Very interesting, it makes financial sense to move production to Canada.)

No way management is moving to Toronto.

It'll be a cold day in Calgary before they develop Albertaland.

While rumors exist for Disney building parks everywhere.

I'd put my money on Texas well before Alberta.

One of the major considerations for Disney to build a theme park is the weather of the area....I highly doubt Canada fits the bill.
Oh... I just love happy endings.

That would be really cool and there is a lot of money in Alberta right now. But I do agree, if they ever built a park in Alberta, it couldn't be a 4 seasons park like we are used to. It would have to be a lot simpler, but still, if tickets were way less due to a more basic park, and if you still had the Disney characters walking around, I think it would be a big hit!

honestly, i would freak out if they changed the crappy, long in the tooth calaway park into something disney! but the weather here is uber unpredictable... it seems like an odd choice, imo. i guess calaway park has done the theme park thing for years, tho... so who knows.
            we'll see what happens.

I seriously doubt they own that building in Toronto, or that they occupy more than a couple of floors. If that's even where their Canadian offices are.

Aren't they building a pipeline between the two? Instead of oil, make it a utilidor and move costumed characters back and forth between the two parks.
